Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)7th May 2018
Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
This song always bring me life and joy when we sing it during praise and worship. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the lostness there is in this world; our wretched selves are constantly under pressure and temptation because the devil has made it so. We are caught up in all the trials we are facing and all the tasks that we need to complete that we often lose the purpose of why we are doing them at all. We were sinners that were blinded to the God we couldn’t see in this broken world.
But there is a greater reminder in this song that surpasses all the trials and tribulations of this world. No matter how far we have gone astray into the woods, the Lord has found us and brought us into His embrace. He has opened our eyes to a promising path ahead of us and revealed to us His true nature. We were lost and blind until His mercy freed us from the chains of the devil and His grace was lavished upon our lives undeservingly.
My chains are gone I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace
